Wooly Mammoth Fossil Bones
Woolly Mammoth Bones were recovered from the bottom of the North Sea, between England and the European continent. The bones come from a depth of 65-165 feet where they were deposited during the last ice age. The Mammoth remains are approximately 11,000-110,000 years old. This area was once exposed when the sea level was lower, and was an area of plains, rivers, and lakes. These Mammoth bones are recovered by fishermen as their nets scrape the bottom of the North Sea.

Mammoth Fossil #001

(#001) A large fossil bone fragment from a wooly mammoth (from the North Sea). Dates from the late Pleistocene era. One of a group of nice specimens I recently aquired (see picture above). This specimen weighs about 3-1/4 pounds and is over 20 inches in length (about 4-1/2 inches wide). Perhaps part of the scapula. All of the specimens have been treated with PVA (Polyvinyl Acetate) sealant. PVA is a professional archival sealant used for preparing fossils which helps stabilze and strengthen the fragile surface of the specimen (purchased from the Black Hills Institute). It also brings out the color and texture of the fossil.
